The Holiday Weight Gain

Isn’t it kind of crazy to think that our society revolves around the holidays?
Think about it.
Every holiday we all assume that we are going to gain the holiday 10 and we just let it happen like we don’t have a choice in the matter.
Thanksgiving comes and you gorge yourself on turkey, pie and alcohol.
Then Christmas comes and the treats that you only bake for Christmas are covering your kitchen counter and because it’s only one time a year, you again gorge yourself on treats everyday between thanksgiving and Christmas. By that time you’re saying “fuck it, I’ll just wait to New Years to get back on track” so you continue to over eat the treats and over drink alcohol.
Then New Year you set a resolution that THIS year will be your year and that you’re are going to finally lose the weight that you have been wanting and fit into those pesky pair of jeans that just hang in your closet.
The New Year arrives, you got new workout gear that you’re just itching to break in, you sign up for a membership at a gym, and you hit the 6am cardio booty blaster class only to realize that you hate workout classes, your uncomfortable and those new leggings you got are giving you a camel toe.
Sound familiar?
I don’t know about you but this sounds awful to me. It behooves me to think that we as a society put our health on hold because we need to celebrate 3 traditions…. Three traditions consists of three days. Why in the hell do we need to have 3-4 months worth of celebrating three days!?
We don’t. But you know what. We have turned those holidays into excuses to gain weight instead of just putting in the work during those 3-4 months.
Let’s break this cycle, this stigma that comes with the holiday season. Over the course of those 3-4 months, let’s work on healthy habits and healthy relationships with foods; let’s lose that shame and blame game on gaining weight; and own up to our choices that have put you in this position in the first place.
You absolutely have a choice in the matter on wether you gain weight or not. No one is forcing you to eat that canned cranberry sauce. You have a choice on what food and how much you put on your plate.
